Lots of great Christmas gift ideas on the go here!

Christmas is Coming…

Posted by Olivia, 27/11/2017

…And we are already getting ready for it! We've now got a lovely 'Christmas Ideas' area set up in the shop, with lots of great gifts, stocking fillers, party aids, cards and all sorts – brilliant for last-minute presents, or little somethings for somebody special. As well as festive jams and chutneys from Jeannie, Christmas ales from the local breweries and a special Christmas blend coffee from Farrers, we've got some lovely toiletries from the Keswick Soap Co, some of Christine's lovely cards with beautiful local winter scenes, and the must-have Bampton First Responders calendar for 2018! So do feel free to come in and have a browse…

Autumn/Winter opening

Posted by Olivia 21/10/2017

With the nights now drawing in and things getting quieter on the tourist front, we have cut down our opening hours slightly for winter. From now on we will be closing at 1pm on Thursdays, and at 4pm, Friday to Sunday. Other than that, no change, so there's still plenty of opportunity to come and shop and get your newspapers, milk and bread, as well as other essentials, plus of course some of those lovely luxuries that we stock. And we'll be getting special Christmas stock in soon – watch this space!

Bampton is on the cards!

We've even more new stock and exciting products coming into the shop all the time now - not least our new postcards of Bampton and Haweswater. They make lovely mementoes of a visit to the area, or are great for sending out to friends and family while you're here.
Coming soon, we'll have sets of notelets with images of the local area, too. Expecting a delivery of those any day!
We have also recently started stocking  Lake District honey, produced just up the road by Jim Lowther. The blossom honey is made by bees in hives on the estate itself, while the heather honey comes from hives up near Shap. So very, very local indeed! And it really has to be tasted to be believed... It's particularly good on toast with some Wintertarn butter!
In news with a slightly sadder tone, we have recently also had delivery of some more of the lovely High Cup wines - and we can only advise that you buy these fast as, sadly, the producers are now retiring and are making no more wine. They expect to close down completely by October, so these bottles on our shelves, could soon become collectors' items!

Local products on display

Having taken a delivery of Kendal Mint Cake (along with some fudge made by the Kendal Mint Cake Company and branded with our own shop name - very exciting!),  and with the tea room now open daily, we have at last decided to turn the table in the shop into a display of local products.
We'll be adding to it as we start to stock more products (look out for some delicious toffee vodka and cakes from Tray Bakes), so watch this space!

Spring Opening Hours

Posted by Olivia, 23/04/2017

After a lively Easter weekend, we have extended the shop opening hours, and the tea room is now open every day. On Monday to Wednesday mornings hot and cold drinks and cakes are available, and from Thursday to Sunday the tea room is open all day serving a selection of savouries, soup and sandwiches – as well as tea and cake of course!
Why not pop in for a bite to eat, a drink and a chat. Dogs welcome!

Off licence Open!

At last, I have my alcohol licence in place (having done an intensive course and sat a very complicated exam…), and, having visited a few of the local breweries and done some serious sampling, testing, tasting and approving, we are really pleased to be offering a range of great local beers.
We have brews from the nearby Eden Brewery ( based at Brougham Hall) and Appleby Brewery (despite the name, actually located in the village of Morland), along with some beers and even a Lakeland lager from Hawkshead. We are also delighted to have some lovely fruit wines from High Cup Winery, who are based at High Cup Nick.
